Texts made understandable for everyone

A woman is sitting at a table typing on a laptop. The laptop screen shows the SUMM website and the translation tool.

Social Impact

With our vision of making the world understandable for everyone, we are dedicated to the major goal of enabling social participation for all people in Germany. This is because many people are denied access to news, official information or insurance documents, for example, due to physical or mental disabilities, a migration background or a learning disability.

However, many other people also benefit from plain language and the increased comprehensibility that comes with it, especially in complex areas such as legal or medical texts.

In a fast-moving world in which we often can’t get information fast enough until new information on current events is available, we are making the world easier to understand for everyone with our tool – by setting ourselves the goal of creating a comprehensive range of services for plain language.

Here you can see two women at a table. Both are looking at the screen of a laptop. You can see the website and the translation tool there. This is a photo from a day with a test group.

Here you can see Vanessa, the COO of SUMM. Together with it, there are three large cubes in the foreground. The cubes contain the SDGs. The first cube stands for SDG 16, i.e. peace, justice and strong institutions. The second cube stands for SDG 10, i.e. less inequality. The third cube stands for SDG 4, i.e. equitable and high-quality education. SUMM supports these three SDGs in particular.

Our contribution to the SDGs

In 2015, all 193 member states of the United Nations joined forces to work together to achieve the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By 2030, these goals are to become a reality and contribute to sustainable peace and prosperity as well as the protection of the planet.

As a start-up that has developed a social innovation, we are also guided by the SDGs in order to make our personal contribution to achieving them.

We are currently addressing three of the SDGs: Firstly, goal number 4, which focuses on quality education for all. We also contribute to the achievement of Goal 10, the reduction of inequalities. We also play a key role in achieving goal number 16 – peace, justice and strong institutions.

This is a picture of SDG 4, which stands for quality education. SUMM is committed to high-quality education as part of SDG 4.
This is a picture of SDG 10, which stands for less inequality. SUMM is committed to reducing inequalities as part of SDG 10.
This is a picture of SDG 16, which stands for less peace, justice and strong institutions. SUMM is committed to peace, justice and strong communication as part of SDG 16.
